Ready When the Time Comes

…a corporate volunteer program, taps the human resources of corporate America. The American Red Cross trains employees from partnering corporations and mobilizes them as a community-based volunteer force when disaster strikes.

Your Commitment

Volunteers who are trained and ready to help in times of disaster are always needed. The Red Cross is partnering with local businesses to engage and train committed teams of employee volunteers who will be ready to respond immediately to a local disaster. This innovative partnership will save lives and help people in our community affected by disasters, whenever and wherever they occur.

RWTC volunteers are trained in the following areas of service:

  • Shelter Operations
  • Bulk Distribution
  • Media and Public Relations
  • Other services as needed by the American Red Cross of Central South Carolina
  • Mass Care and Feeding
  • Casework
  • Disaster Health Services
  •  Damage Assessment
  • Phone Bank
  • Transportation

Our Community’s Need

Our disaster relief efforts focus on meeting people’s immediate emergency needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, we provide shelter, food, health (prescription medications and eyeglasses) and mental health services to address basic human needs. All disaster relief services are provided free of charge.

  • Every 20 hours, the local chapter responds to a disaster, generally home or apartment fires, in the central region of South Carolina.
  • In FY 2009, our chapter has sent more than 50 disaster volunteers to respond to local, regional, and national disaster events.
  • Average annual emergency disaster assistance: 400 local disasters, over 500 families assisted. The chapter has committed over $220,000 on client assistance (food, clothing, subsistence, etc.) during FY 2009. That translates to more than $500 per affected family.
